Three steps to your first session
Buying, scheduling, and checking in happen in three different places — here's the whole path.
Choose your package
Pick a single session or a package in our store. You'll enter your athlete's name and age at checkout.
Schedule your time
After purchase you book your actual session time through our scheduling calendar — any day of the week, based on coach availability.
Schedule a pre-paid session ›Your session shows as $0 in the calendar because you've already paid for it.
Check in and get to work
Check in through OneTap when you arrive — no app download, just the link — and your session is logged automatically. Bring court shoes, a ball, and water.
Is private training right for your athlete?
We'd rather point you to the right program than sell you the wrong one.
Private training is a great fit if…
- Your athlete has a specific weakness to fix — their shot, their left hand, their footwork.
- They're preparing for tryouts, a season, or a jump to the next level.
- They've hit a plateau and group reps alone aren't moving them.
- They're shy or still building confidence and do better without an audience.
- Your family's schedule needs flexibility rather than a fixed class time.
Another program may serve you better if…
- Your athlete mainly needs reps, competition, and peers — that's Group Training, from $30 drop-in.
- They're 6–11 and brand new to organized basketball — start in a Keiki League or beginner class.
- Shooting volume is the goal — our Dr. Dish shooting sessions deliver hundreds of game-speed reps.
What a session looks like
Sixty focused minutes. No waiting in line, no splitting a coach four ways.
Goal check & warm-up
We start with what your athlete is working toward, then move through a dynamic warm-up that builds mobility and prevents injury.
Skill block
The core of the hour — targeted work on the specific skill we're building, broken down, corrected, and repeated until it holds up.
Game speed
New skills get tested under pressure, fatigue, and defense. If it only works standing still, it won't work in a game.
Feedback & homework
Your athlete leaves knowing exactly what improved and what to practice before the next session. Parents are welcome to listen in.
What we work on
Tell us the goal and we build the plan around it.

Coach Segundo & the Uptempo Athletics staff
Coach Segundo founded Uptempo Athletics and brings more than 15 years of coaching and developing youth basketball players in Hawaiʻi. Drawing on his own playing career at Gunn High School in California and Foothill College at the JUCO level, he built Uptempo to give young athletes a place to receive consistent, purposeful development — in an environment built on hard work, discipline, confidence, accountability, and character.
Together with the Uptempo coaching staff, he works with athletes across a wide range of ages and skill levels — from beginners learning the fundamentals to competitive players preparing for higher levels of basketball. The mission goes beyond developing better players: we use basketball as a vehicle to develop confident, disciplined, high-character young people on and off the court.

Private training FAQ
What age do you start private training?
Athletes must be at least 6 years old to participate in private training. From there we match the coach and the plan to your athlete's age and experience.
Do I need a separate package for each of my kids?
No. Sessions from one package can be redeemed by any of your children. Buy once and use the sessions across all your athletes however you like.
Can my athlete train with a friend or sibling in the same session?
Yes. Small-group private sessions let you choose who joins — a sibling, a teammate, or a friend at a similar level. Contact us for small-group rates.
How do I know how many sessions I have left?
We use the OneTap app. You check in when you arrive, the session is deducted automatically, and your remaining balance is there whenever you want to look. Nothing to keep track of on your end.
Do I need to download the OneTap app?
No download required. You check in straight from the link — save it to your phone's home screen and it's one tap. We'll walk you through it on your first visit.
I bought a package. How do I book my actual session time?
Use our scheduling calendar to pick a day and time that works. Purchasing and scheduling are two separate steps — buy first, then schedule.
How often should we come?
Most athletes see the fastest progress at once or twice a week alongside their team practice or a group class. One session a week for 10 weeks builds more than 10 sessions crammed into a month.
What if we need to cancel or reschedule?
Cancellations and rescheduling requests require at least 24 hours' notice. Sessions cancelled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours' notice will be charged in full.
Do sessions expire?
No. Packages never expire. They are non-transferable and non-refundable.
Will I train with Coach Segundo?
Sessions are with Coach Segundo or a member of the Uptempo staff, based on availability and the best fit for your athlete. You can request a specific coach when you book.
Can parents watch?
Absolutely. Parents are welcome to stay, and we'll walk you through what we worked on at the end of every session.
What's the difference between private and group training?
Private is a plan built for one athlete with a coach's full attention. Group is competitive reps alongside peers at the same level, from $30 drop-in. Many families do both. Compare programs.
Ready to get to work?
Most families start with a single session to see the fit. Sessions never expire, so there's no clock on you.
